The impact of COVID-19 on livelihoods and the economy poses a risk to Indonesia’s significant development achievements in the 21st century, including sustained economic growth and poverty reduction. A recovery strategy for Indonesian cities is needed—one that creatively navigates economic uncertainty while addressing megatrends such as climate change, urban poverty, technological disruption, demographic shifts, and rapid urbanization to remain globally competitive. In collaboration with the World Bank, the Urban Transformation Strategy aims to identify urban transformation opportunities in the Western Java region, aligned with national strategies such as the RPJMN (National Medium-Term Development Plan), and to illustrate implementable projects through conceptual ‘quick win’ plans in the target areas of Bandung and Rebana.
